Constructed in 1932 by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail, Brindavan Garden is visited by millions of tourists every year. The well-synchronised fountain show with music, boating and well-manicured grass with flowerbeds are some of the top experiences of Brindavan Garden. Built across the notable river of India, Cauvery, it took around five years to complete the project. Yes, the fountain show is included in the entry fee. If you love greenery, visit during the monsoon months (July-September), but carry an umbrella as it might rain.

Due to time constraints, we could not visit other side to see the musical fountains — and frankly, we didn’t even know or care to ask if they were functional — because we were curious to see the Dam and its vast water storage. Brindavan Gardens is open all year, but the best time to visit is October to February. Brindavan Gardens charges a nominal entry fee for visitors. The garden comes alive after sunset with thousands of lights adorning the pathways and fountains. Brindavan Gardens is open to visitors throughout the year.

The Musical and dancing fountain is a huge attraction. I remember the excitement felt when we neared the main gate area of Brindavan Gardens, which is designed to resemble India Gate, New Delhi. The garden is divided into four parts, the main gate area, South Brindavan, North Brindavan, and Childrens’ Garden. The garden occupies 60 acres of land. It is a wonderful sight when the gates of the dam are opened during monsoons.
